Lions Fall to Horned Frogs After Hot Start

LOS ANGELES — LMU jumped out to an early lead Monday afternoon at Page Stadium, but a 12-run fifth inning by TCU proved too much to overcome as the Horned Frogs rolled to a 17-7 victory over the Lions in non-conference play.

LMU showed promise from the jump, plating four runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to build a 6-1 cushion. Alex Gamboa keyed the early offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while DJ Ghiorso added a double, a sacrifice fly, and two RBI of his own. Leadoff man Zion Williams chipped in a double and an RBI as well, and shortstop Jaxson Wall reached base twice and scored twice to keep the Lions' lineup turning over.

The headline offensive moment came from first baseman Zach Wadas, who launched his first home run as a Lion to give LMU a lift. Wadas finished 1-for-2 with two walks and the RBI blast.

On the mound, right-hander Zach DenDekker was solid in his LMU debut, working four innings and allowing just one run on two hits while striking out two and walking three on 65 pitches.

The Lions will face UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday night at Page Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (PT) before heading on the first road trip of the season to play four games against Wake Forest and Davidson.
