Singles Effort Not Enough as Lions Fall to SDSU

Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The LMU women's tennis team battled through a competitive road matchup on Friday afternoon, ultimately falling 4-2 to San Diego State at the Aztec Tennis Center.

The Lions faced early pressure in doubles play as SDSU claimed wins on courts one and three to secure the doubles point. Ada Piestrzynska and Anastasia Bozova dropped a 6-1 decision at the top spot, while Helene Schnack and Kim-Michaela Zahraj fell 6-4 on court three. Court two remained unfinished at 5-4, leaving LMU looking to respond in singles.

Sofia Perovani delivered LMU's first point of the afternoon in dominant fashion at No. 5 singles, handing her opponent a bagel in the opening set before closing out a strong 6-0, 6-3 straight-sets victory. Kim-Michaela Zahraj followed with a gritty three-set win on court six, bouncing back after dropping the second set to secure a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 result and pull the Lions within striking distance.

At the top of the lineup, Lidia Gonzalez was locked in a tightly contested battle at No. 1 singles, leading 6-3, 5-7, 5-4 when the match was left unfinished. Despite strong efforts across the courts, San Diego State secured victories at courts 2, 3, and 4 in singles to clinch the team result.

The Lions showed resilience in singles play and continued to compete deep into matches, but the early doubles deficit proved difficult to overcome against a strong Aztec lineup.
