PHOENIX, Ariz. –
Mason Snyder leads all 64 players following two completed rounds at the Thunderbird Intercollegiate following his opening-round course record 9-under par. The sophomore opened the event with a 9-under first round and took an extra stroke off to sit in first at 10-under par.
Snyder's opening round included nine birdies and no rounds over par to shoot 62. His four additional birdies positions Snyder at a stroke ahead of the competition at 62-70-132.
Alejandro Alonso joins Snyder at under par after shooting 3-under, 68-71—139. Alonso recorded seven birdies of his own in the first round and followed with two more birdies in a par second round to sit in a tie for 22
nd.
Louie Liu opened with par before shooting 71-74—145, and
Cade Anderson shot the opposite with a 74-71—145. Lie totaled eight birdies, whereas Anderson recorded four birdies with a team-high 25 par holes.
Closing out the five for LMU was the 73-74—147 for
Trevor Algya.
Frank Vucic competed as an individual and shot 72-74—146.
As a team, LMU followed the opening round 10-under with a second round 2-over to shoot 274-286—560. The 41 combined birdies by the Lions are tied for the second most behind tournament host Arizona State's 43.
The final round will open with tee times beginning at 7:00 AM on Saturday morning. Snyder and Alonso will tee off from the 10
th hole at 7:06 AM with his teammates following.
