PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. – The field for the second annual Pauma Valley Invitational included six of the nation's top seven teams and 13 teams ranked in the top-33 of the Division I collegiate men's golf rankings. The event, hosted by LMU, featured three rounds of competitive golf played on Monday and Tuesday at Pauma Valley Country Club.
Seventh-ranked LSU won the event at 27-under par, followed by #4 Texas at 17-under and #5 Oklahoma State at 11-under. 13
th-ranked Christiaan Maas of Texas edged out 11
th-ranked Algot Kleen of LSU to take the individual title.
The Lions finished as the highest remaining team outside of those 13 schools ranked in the top 33. LMU shot 18-over for the tournament at 292-291-287—870, just a stroke behind #28 SMU.
Trevor Algya led the Lions with his 1-under play for the week. Algya shot two rounds under par with his 69-73-70—211 to tie for 19
th.
Mason Snyder opened the tournament with a 69 as well and finished at 69-72-76—217 to place in the top half of the field.
Improving their scores each round,
Alejandro Alonso shot 78-72-70—220 to tie for 50
th and
Cade Anderson shot 76-74-71—221 to finish a stroke back and in a tie for 56
th.
Hogan Park rounded out the team scores for the Lions with his 78-76-78—230.
LMU also had four players compete as individuals over the two days.
Frank Vucic (77-77-70—224), Joshua Ince (75-83-71—229), and
Louie Liu (77-80-76—233) all played their best round on Tuesday to close out the event.
David Gutierrez's (79-78-80—237) best round came in Round 2, which began on Monday but was concluded on Tuesday due to weather.
The Lions will next compete March 27-29 at The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford.
