Lions Strengthen Backcourt with Talented Upperclassman Guard

LOS ANGELES – Head Coach Stan Johnson has signed Justin Wright to play for LMU men's basketball in the 2023-24 season. Wright will transfer into the LMU program as a dynamic guard following his career-high scoring seasons in 2022-23.

"I chose LMU because everything felt right as soon as i got off my flight," said Wright. "The coaching staff and the campus was lovely. The coaching staff was big on family, and I'm big on family, so that was major for me. I honestly felt like I could come here and grow as a player and a person. I am truly blessed and honored to join the Lion family. I can't wait to contribute to winning and go on a March tournament run!! GO LIONS!"

Justin Wright is a two-time All-MEAC performer who will join the Lions as a transfer from North Carolina Central. The Greenville, N.C., guard will make his way west following three seasons with the Eagles. This past year, Wright averaged over 16 points per game, scoring in double-figures in 28 of his 30 starts. Wright has proven to be an efficient shooter, hitting over 48 percent of his shots and over 41 percent from three over the last two seasons. This past season, Wright led N.C. Central in points, minutes, field goals, field goal percentage, free throws, and free throw percentage. Wright will have two seasons of eligibility with the Lions.

"Justin brings elite level toughness to our program," said Coach Johnson. "His competitive personality is something we needed in order to take the next step. His ability to score the ball and defend at a high level will help improve our perimeter play. Justin has a tremendous spirit and an incredible heart. I believe he is someone our fans will truly love having at LMU. He's not afraid of the moment and truly loves to win. There's no doubt in my mind that his impact on our program will be a great one."

The Lions are coming off the program's second top-four season in the WCC over Johnson's three-year career. Both players will be eligible to play immediately upon arrival to Los Angeles.

The schedule and ticket information for the 2023-24 season will be released when completed.
