Men's Basketball Star Anthony Ireland to be Inducted into WCC Hall of Honor in 2024

WCC ANNOUNCEMENT | LMU's List of Hall of Honor Inductees

LOS ANGELES - The West Coast Conference has announced the 2024 WCC Hall of Honor Class, which includes nine members from the nine member institutions. LMU's Anthony Ireland will represent the Lions as an inductee this March at a special ceremony in Las Vegas during the 2024 Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Basketball Championship.

Ireland played on the LMU Men's Basketball team from 2010-2014. Ireland played every game in his tenure at LMU, playing 132 games and starting 125. Ireland ranks first in games started and minutes played in program history. He was named first-team All-WCC in 2011-12, 2012-13, and 2013-14, making him just the third Lion to be named first-team three times. Ireland ranks third overall in career points made with 2,169, fifth in field goals attempted with 735, fifth in three-pointers made with 195, second in free throws made with 504, third in assists with 557, and second in steals with 200.

Ireland earned LMU's first NABC All-District honor in just his second season of college basketball in 2011-12 and was second-team All-NABC as a senior. Additionally, Ireland earned Lou Henson Preseason Mid-Major All-American, was named Bob Cousy Watch List, and Senior Class Award Top-50 in his final season with the Lions. In 2011, Ireland was named Mid-Major Freshman All-American by CollegeInsider.com.

After graduation in 2014, the Waterbury, Connecticut native played nine seasons of professional basketball internationally. Ireland averaged 14.6 points per game and 6.5 steals per game while playing in the top leagues in France, Greece, Poland, Lithuania, Portugal, and Hungary.

At 5 foot 9 inches, Ireland always played bigger than his size. Ireland continues to give back to his community and founded the AI3 Leadership Academy in 2015, in Waterbury, Connecticut. The AI3 Leadership Academy was created with the intent to produce future leaders, both on and off the court. The Leadership Academy focuses on youth development and community leadership, while emphasizing the opportunities that discipline, hard work, and passion can develop. Children will learn the importance of working together, supporting one another and developing positive characteristics while doing something that they love.

Ireland is the 14th LMU inductee into the WCC's Hall of Honor.
