The women's and men's basketball teams are looking at several high-profile games in the coming season, non-conference and West Coast Conference contests, that will put the Lions in the spotlight.
LMU's men's basketball team plays 16 home games this year, and the women's team plays 14 home games – a home-court advantage in each one will make a tremendous difference to the team. The season opens on Nov. 7 before LMU jumps right into a game Nov. 12 against Yale University, a team that played in the NIT last season and may just win the Ivy League outright this season. The game against Jackson State on Nov. 14 will end the opening homestand and serve as LMU's final sendoff before the Lions play internationally at the Cayman Islands Classic. Check out the full
schedule.
The women's team plays their home opener on Nov. 6 against UNLV at Gersten Pavilion, then travels to Tucson to take on the Wildcats of the University of Arizona. Among the schedule highlights are: WCC 20
th anniversary Pancreatic Cancer Game (Nov. 19, vs. San Jose State); home contests against University of Denver (Nov. 30) and University of South Dakota (Dec. 3); trips to UC Santa Barbara (Dec. 17) and Cal State Northridge (Dec. 21). The WCC season opens in Gersten against San Francisco. Check out the full
schedule.
The Lion men return to Gersten Pavilion for two games to close out November, with out-of-state opponents the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Central Arkansas coming west on Nov. 25 and 29, respectively.
Following a tough stretch of games at Nevada and then against UNLV and UC Santa Barbara on neutral courts, the Lions return home to close out the non-conference with home games on Dec. 18, Dec. 22, and Dec. 29.
Starting in January, it is all West Coast Conference play until tournament time in March. The Lions will open a massive game against Santa Clara on Jan. 14, then play Saint Mary's on Jan. 6, and host Pacific on Jan. 13 all before classes begin and students are fully back on campus. This stretch of games could be the catalyst to the season all Lions wish to have, so full support and attendance for these are critical.
The men have PCH Cup battles against Pepperdine slated for Jan. 20 in Malibu and Feb. 10 at home.
This year's games for LMU Family Weekend are tremendous: The men's team will start the weekend hosting Gonzaga on a nationally televised game on Feb. 15 before hosting two-time NCAA Champion San Francisco on Feb. 17. The women's team will play San Diego on the afternoon of Feb. 17.
