LOS ANGELES – The LMU softball team have added two new assistant coaches for the 2023 season. Larry Tiger and LMU alumni, Georgia Blair, are joining Coach Tairia Flowers this year in hopes of bringing a trophy back to LMU.
"It's truly and honor to start my college coaching career on a staff headed by Tairia Flowers," says Tiger. "She is a true character person and a legend of the game."
Before coming to LMU, Tiger was the director of Capa Indoor Hitting Facility in Clovis, Ca.
Tiger's journey started at Selma High where he was the physical education teacher and head baseball coach from 1998 to 2003.
After Selma High School, Tiger was the new head baseball coach and varsity football coach at Lemoore High School. In 2009, Tiger moved on to Clovis High School where he became the assistant baseball coach focusing on hitting and outfield.
In 2014, Tiger worked in travel softball with the Dirtdog Organization as their hitting instructor as well as their assistant coach.
Tiger attended Cal State Hayward and received his bachelors in Kinesiology. He then attended National University and received his master's in special education.
"Larry has decades of experience teaching the game and is passionate about player development while bringing a championship mindset to the bluff," said Coach Flowers. "I know Larry is going to have an immediate impact on our players and I'm thrilled they get to learn from one of the best in the game."
Georgia Blair isn't new to LMU Lions softball. Blair played her graduate season for the Lions in 2022. This will be her first experience coaching college softball.
"I've very excited to be able to learn from Coach Flowers and this wonderful group of staff in the beginning of my coaching career," said Blair. "I'm looking forward to seeing what this group of athletes can achieve in the 2023 season."
Blair started her college softball career at San Jose State University with the Spartans in 2017 before transferring to University of Central Florida in 2020.
In 2022 Blair transferred to LMU for her graduate season. She was named WCC Player of The Year, WCC First Team and NFCA All West Region Third Team.
Blair also received her Master of Education degree at LMU in summer 2022.
Blair is a native of Australia and played for Team Australia from 2015-2019. In 2016 Blair, and Team Australia, won the Women's Softball World Championship followed by making an appearance in the 2017 World Cup of Softball.
"We're excited to have Georgia return to the Bluff with us," said Flowers. "Her knowledge and experience in the college game, as well as, international will benefit our young squad tremendously."
The 2023 schedule for Lions softball will be released on a later date.
