LOS ANGELES - LMU women's rowing has announced the hiring of two new assistant coaches.
Shelby Larkin and
Victoria McGee are joining Coach
Allison Foster's staff this 2022-23 season.
Â
This will be Larkin's rookie season as a rowing coach. Before LMU she was a student athlete at Oregon State University and competed on the rowing team all four years.Â
Â
"I am very excited to begin my coaching career with Allison and Victoria, as well as getting to know the team and seeing what we are capable of this upcoming academic and competitive year," said Larkin.
Â
While at OSU Larkin raced in the 2V8 and took second place in the NCAA Championship C Finals. Larkin also raced in the 2V8 and took home first place at the Dexter Invite. Additionally, she was voted OSU Rowing's Most Inspirational Rower in 2020.
Â
"
Shelby Larkin is a great energy to have on staff," said Coach Foster. "Her eagerness to learn new things while also working to refine the skills she already has will be the invaluable trait to demonstrate and share with the team."
Â
Victoria McGee is a veteran when it comes to coaching. Before coming to LMU she was the assistant rowing coach at Duke University from 2016-2018.Â
Â
During her rookie season she worked with the Blue Devils' 3V8 defeating North Carolina and Clemson at the Carolina Cup. The same boat won bronze medal at the 2018 ACC Championship.
Â
After coaching the Blue Devils for two seasons, McGee was promoted to be their Director of Operations for the following year.
Â
Once her tenure was done with Duke in 2019, she became the rowing program director at The Hotchkiss School.
Â
At The Hotchkiss School McGee led the development of the school's inaugural rowing program, as well as, overseeing all aspects of the program from training to fundraising.Â
Â
She was also the Coordinator of Athletic Leadership from 2021-2022 and Assistant Athletic Director in May 2022 with The Hotchkiss School.
Â
"I'm extremely excited to join LMU Athletics and the rowing program," said McGee. "I have known
Allison Foster for a while now. I respect and trust her coaching philosophy and values."Â Â Â
Â
McGee is a 2016 graduate of the University of North Carolina and was a member of the Tar Heels' varsity rowing team for three seasons. During her senior year, her V8 team qualified for the ACC Petite Final finishing the race in 6:56.891. The V8 was also named Crew of The Week by the ACC on March 29, 2016.
Â
"I am grateful to have Victoria joining the coaching staff for the women's rowing team," said Coach Foster. "She has a variety of professional experiences that will enhance the team's competitive level and offer insight into the power of internal teammates leadership."
Â
Coach Foster said she's very excited to welcome Victoria and Shelby to the team this season.
Â
Â
The 2022-2023 schedule for LMU women's rowing will be released on a later date.
