CHANDLER, Ariz. – LMU men's golf finished 12 strokes under par in Wyoming's Cowboy Classic on Monday and Tuesday to place seventh of 25 teams.
Riley Lewis led the Lions and tied for fifth in the three-round tournament, highlighted by the lowest round of the tournament with his 64 stroke second round.
"It was fun to watch Riley this week," said Head Coach
Jason D'Amore. "He was in a great mental place and played some great golf."
Lewis shot two rounds in the 60s including matching his career-low round with a 64. Lewis shot 72-64-69 to finish at 11-under. Lewis benefitted from 16 birdies to finish two strokes off the winner.
The LMU pair of
Alejandro Alonso (72-73-70—215) and
Caden McMackin (69-72-74—215) tied one another for 33
rd.
Tony Hendricks scored for the Lions with his 72-73-72—217, while
Gavin Cohen rounded out the five at 72-74-74—220.
The team shot 285-282-285—852 to finish each round under par.
One more tournament remains on the schedule before LMU will compete in the West Coast Conference Championships at the end of the month. The Lions will head to Davis, Calif. From Apr. 20-22 to compete in the El Macero Classic.
