HENDERSON, Nev. – The LMU men's golf team sits at the top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the West Coast Conference Championships after shooting 288 on Thursday.
"Solid day for the guys," said Head Coach
Jason D'Amore. "
Riley Lewis and
Cameron Meeks played some great golf. Tale of two nines. Getable on the front and howling wind on the back. The guys hung in there and showed some great mental presence today."
The Lions are led by
Riley Lewis, who at 3-under, 69 is tied for first in the 45-player field.
Joining Lewis in the top five is
Cameron Meeks who shot 1-under, 71.
Gavin Cohen is a stroke over par at 73.
Caden McMackin shot 75 and
Tony Hendricks closed his round at 77.
The team is tied with Pepperdine as the only two teams at even after Thursday's round. LMU shot 52 pars, 19 birdies, and added Hendricks' eagle. Both Meeks and Lewis sunk five birdies apiece.
The tournament continues Friday with the second round. LMU will tee off, along with Pepperdine and San Diego, beginning at 8:40 am from the first hole. The next group will tee off every 10 minutes until the top three individuals take the course at 9:20 a.m.
