LOS ANGELES-- The Loyola Marymount University women's tennis team (7-1) has jumped from the No. 38 in the top 75 ITA Tennis Rankings, which is the highest LMU has been ranked in program history, to now making new history by landing the No. 17 spot in latest
ITA Rankings.
"I'm glad we are in the top 20 at the No. 17 spot," stated Coach
Agustin Moreno. "It's the highest spot LMU Women's Tennis has been ranked in program history."
The Lions earned these high rankings after beating No. 4 ranked UCLA, which then sparked a six game winning streak. Their only loss comes from No. 18 ranked USC.
Veronika Miroshnichenko also just earned West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week honors.
"We have to be strong, this is the first half of the season, so we have the keep managing things like we have," Coach Moreno added. "If we can stay healthy, things will go even further in the end."
The Lions have also landed the No. 3 ranked spot in the West Coast Conference preseason coaches' poll ahead of conference play.
The Lions will continue their home stand with a match against the Colorado State Rams on Friday, Mar. 18 at 1:00 p.m. PST. The match will be held at the LMU Tennis Center as the Lions look to extend their winning streak.
