Lions Dig Deep, Take Down Gonzaga 4-3

SPOKANE, Wash. - The LMU women's tennis team delivered a hard-fought performance on Saturday afternoon, using a strong showing in doubles and key singles victories to secure a 4-3 win over Gonzaga on the road.

LMU opened the match by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Anastasia Bozova and Ada Piestrzynska set the tone with a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 position over Rose Hayes and Sveva Zerpelloni, while Kim-Michaela Zahraj and Helene Schnack followed with a 6-4 win on court three against Elizabeth Tindera and Diana Yanotovskaya. Gonzaga picked up the win at No. 2 doubles, but the Lions secured the early 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.

Gonzaga responded quickly in singles, earning a straight-set victory at the top of the lineup as Emily Robertson defeated Lidia Gonzalez at No. 1 to even the match. The Bulldogs added another point at No. 4 singles, where Elizabeth Tindera edged Bozova in a three-set battle to take a 2-1 lead.

LMU answered behind strong performances in the middle and bottom of the lineup. Ada Piestrzynska delivered a decisive straight-set win at No. 2 singles, defeating Diana Yanotovskaya 6-4, 6-2 to level the score. Sofia Perovani followed with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles, while Helene Schnack battled back after dropping the opening set to earn a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 comeback win at No. 5, giving the Lions crucial momentum late in the match.

The match ultimately came down to the remaining courts, with Gonzaga picking up a three-set win at No. 3 singles. However, LMU's trio of singles victories proved to be the difference, as the Lions held on to secure the 4-3 team victory.

Despite the back-and-forth nature of the contest, LMU showed resilience throughout the lineup, highlighted by Schnack's comeback win and strong performances across the singles courts to clinch the road victory.
