COLLEGE STATION, TEX. –
Roc Johnson capped off a tremendous 2021 Outdoor Track season for the Loyola Marymount University Lions when he toed the line at the NCAA Preliminary Round in the 3,000m Steeplechase on Saturday. The meet took place at E.B. Cushing Stadium, hosted by Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
Johnson became the first Lion on the men's team to compete at the NCAAs in the 3,000m Steeplechase after he put together his first ever sub-9:00 performance at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance Twilight earlier in the month. His LMU record time of 8:55.77, shaved an incredible 13 seconds off his previous career best and ranked #36 out of a total of 48 qualifiers in the West Region.
Johnson had to wait an extra day to compete as inclement weather postponed the steeple from Friday night to Saturday afternoon.
Roc ran a valiant race, finishing three spots ahead of his initial ranking despite a fall with a little over two laps remaining. He finished 33
rd overall, crossing the line with a time of 9:11.29.
Johnson's career at LMU came to an end on Saturday afternoon, and he walks away from the bluff as the school record holder in the 3,000m Steeplechase.
