CLAREMONT, Calif. - The LMU men's distance medley relay team has officially entered the Lion record books.
On February 24, the track team competed in the Rossi Relays hosted by Pomona-Pitzer and the men's distance relay team broke a longstanding LMU record held by recent Hall of Fame inductee Weston Strum and current track and cross country assistant coach
John Pickhaver.
Jacob Wiggers, Shane Ely, Will Luders and Adam Trafecanty shattered the previous record by over four seconds, recording a 10:05.56. Trafecanty ran the anchor and split a 4:09 mile time.
Ben Brown Invitational Highlights
- Jacob Wiggers finished third in the 1500-meters and set the No. 8 mark all-time at LMU with a 3:52.82.
- Freshman Stephen Cummings set a personal best in the 1500 with a 4:01.76.
- Lauren Wagner had a strong race in the 1500 with a 4:46.62 and also in the 800 with a 2:18.67.
- Tessa Kline also had strong 1500 (4:58.76) and 800 (2:29.40) races.
- Trafecanty finished second overall in the 5K, just a little over a second behind the winner.
- Luders won his heat of the 5K with a mad dash to the finish and had a massive PR, posting a 14:48.22.
- Shelby Page (18:30.26) and Hayden Washington (17:10.96) both posted huge PRs in the 5K. Page improved 46 seconds while Washington finished 19th overall and improved 31 seconds.
- Kennedy Bartee made her debut in the women's 3K steeplechase and 12:28.72.
- The women's 400-meter runners all had strong runs, Sydney Douglas (1:04.25), Katie Power (1:05.31) and Zoe Chang (1:05.34).
Bob Larsen Distance Carnival Highlights
- Washington was the top finisher for the Lions in the women's 1500-meter, posting a time of 4:43.20 and finishing tenth overall.
- Page had a strong showing in the 1500 as well, with a time of 4:52.85.
- Freshman Simon Worku also had a solid showing on the men's side of the 1500. He posted a 4:01.96 amid a very strong showing from LMU. He was behind Luders (3:58.59), Wiggers (3:54.61), and Ely (3:50.96).
- Cummings finished second in the men's 3K steeplechase, finishing second overall with a time of 9:36.95.
Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational
- Ely finished second overall in the men's 800-meters, a hair behind first with a time of 1:54.18.
- Wagner notched a solid effort in the women's 800-meters, finishing ninth overall in 2:23.27.
- Power also had a strong showing in the 800, posting a time of 2:29.87.
- Chang was the top Lion in the women's 200-meters, finishing in 27.55.
