ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Gavin Cohen and Riley Lewis each closed out the 2021 season in impressive fashion in Wednesday's final round of the 2021 NCAA Men's Golf Albuquerque Regional. The pair of LMU individuals each shot in the 60s to tie one another at 28^th overall in the competitive field.
 
With Cohen's 73-75-68—216, he finished the year with the best single-season individual scoring average in program history. Cohen is the first Lion to shoot better than 71.00 over the course of a season, finishing at 70.97 for the year following his 36 rounds of play. Cohen passes Brian Locke's 71.00 which stood as LMU's best scoring season since 2007.
 
Cohen started his day with consecutive birdies, and three birdies over the first four holes. Cohen totaled seven birdies on Wednesday and only shot over par three times with a trio of bogeys to finish at 4-under for the final round.
 
Lewis finished his first season with the program's best freshman campaign, averaging 71.42 strokes in his 36 collegiate rounds in 2021-22. In his first NCAA Regionals, Lewis shot 73-74-69—216, and painted a perfect back nine with four birdies and nothing over par.
 
As a team this season, LMU also set a new best 4-player scoring average this year at 285.61, surpassing the 291.21 set by the 2008-09 Lions. Previously this year, the Lions set the team program record for best WCC Tournament and best overall team tournament score, which was broken twice this year.
 
The five teams to advance out of the Albuquerque Regionals are Texas Tech (283-278-277—838), Arizona State (285-279-284—848), Oregon State (281-275-292—848), Oklahoma (289-284-278—851), and San Diego (296-275-281—852). Ryan Hall of South Carolina (68-68-69—205) will advance as well, finishing as the Regional's top remaining individual scorer.
