Lions Head North to Face Washington

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (4-3, 0-0 WCC) take their three game winning streak north to Seattle and face the Washington Huskies this weekend. The Lions continued trek through the Pac-12 sees them set to play games eight through ten of 14 straight against the conference to open the season.

Both the Lions and Huskies are coming off series wins with LMU sweeping Utah and Washington taking three-of-four over UTRGV.

The entire three-game series against the Huskies will be streamed live with links to the broadcasts available on the baseball schedule page at lmulions.com.

Heading into the series the Lions' Alec Cargin and Diego Baqueiro have provided plenty of offensive firepower for head coach Nathan Choate. Cargin, against the Utes, was 4-for-10 with two home runs and five RBI while Baqueiro went 6-for-12 with a double, five runs scored, and three RBI.

Cargin has hit safely in all seven games the Lions have played and is second on the team in batting average at .400. Baqueiro, not to be outdone, has five multi-hit games for the Lions and is third in average at .379.

LMU has gotten tremendous starting pitching throughout the season. CJ Fernandezees has gone at least five innings in every start this year and is holding opponents to a .114 batting average when he's on the hill. Jimmy Galicia leads the team in innings pitched and has gone at least six innings in each of his starts. Against Utah he threw 6 1/3 innings while striking out six to pick up the victory.

Matt McClure put together his best outing while picking up his first win of the season on Sunday. McClure scattered four hits over six innings to go along with six strikeouts and at one point retired eight straight. McClure has a team leading nine strikeouts while holding batters to a .194 average when the ball is in his hands.

The Lions will begin the series on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Husky Ballpark followed by Saturday's game at 5:00 p.m. and the finale set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
