Lions Win Fourth-Straight Behind Second-Half Surge

SAN FRANCISCO – Playing only six players, the LMU men's basketball team (11-6, 6-3 WCC) earned a critical road win and defeated University of San Francisco (10-11, 4-7 WCC) for the second time this season. The Lions shot 61.9 percent (13-for-21) in the second half to come-from-behind and defeat the Dons, 68-63.
 
The Lions closed the game on a 7-0 run to complete the comeback, all from the free throw line, including an offensive rebound by Eli Scott to earn two additional foul shots. LMU hit 13-for-16 free throws in the second half and finished the game at 18-for-25.
 
Early in the half, after falling behind by eight, LMU scored nine unanswered points to take the lead, 39-38. Parker Dortch bookended the run with a pair of paint baskets less than two minutes apart. Dortch finished with a season-high nine points and five rebounds in 24 minutes.
 
LMU outscored San Francisco 43-30 after intermission.
 
The Dons opened the game with one of their nine triples, before LMU took a 5-2 lead with Eli Scott's three of his own pushing the Lions ahead.
 
San Francisco pushed back ahead with the next seven unanswered, and pushed their advantage to as high as nine points in the first half.
 
A 15-5 run over a 5:40 span pushed the Lions back on top, 22-21, with 7:33 to play in the first half. Scott scored eight points in the run and Ivan Alipiev added back-to-back layups.
 
Four Lions finished in double-digits as Eli Scott led the team with 18 points and seven assists. Mattias Markusson scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds in the second half and finished with a 11 point and career-high 15 rebound double-double. Keli Leaupepe added 14 points and Ivan Alipiev scored a dozen.
 
LMU took a season-low nine threes, but made a season-best 66.7 percent of them after knocking down six.
 
The game finished nine lead changes and seven ties.
 
Last time LMU had four conference wins in a row was 2011-12 and 1990-91 before that.
 
LMU will have a quick turnaround, hosting BYU on Saturday at noon.
