Meet Schedule
The Loyola Marymount University Lions men's and women's Track and Field teams open the 2021 season on Saturday, February 13th
with the Sunshine Collegiate Meet on the campus of Westmont College in Santa Barbara.
The Lions will return to the track for the first time since March 7, 2020, when their season came to an abrupt end due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This meet will give the team a chance to tune up before the West Coast Conference Cross Country Championships in Las Vegas on February 24th.
Heading into his 23rd
season at the helm of both the Cross Country and Track and Field programs, Head Coach
Scott Guerrero is eager to see his Lions compete. "After a challenging year, we are grateful for the opportunity to finally compete again," said Guerrero. "We have been working hard in silence and can't wait to see that discipline pay off."
The Lion women will hit the track at 3:40 p.m. for the 3,000 meters.
Samantha Barajas returns to compete for the Lions, and will look to improve on her personal best of 10:23.91.
Avery Doan,
Ann Kelly,
Rebecca Collins,
Raina Hines, and
Dani Rowlinson also return for the Lions after an 11 month hiatus from racing. Debuting for the Lion women are
Lauren Wagner,
Sophia Cortina and
Grace Tully.
LMU's men's team will hit the track next at 3:55 p.m. for the 3,000 meters. Returning for the Lions are
Zach Arias,
Shane Ely,
Ethan Frisone,
Nolan Getchell,
Roberto Ruelas,
Estanis Ruiz, and
Jacob Villegas. Ruiz boasts a personal record of 8:30.38 in the 3000m which ranks #9 on LMU's All-Time list, followed by Frisone at #17 with a time of 8:36.84.
Debuting for the Lions are
Andrew Biehl,
Hunter Krasa, and
Miguel Barrera-Lopez. Barrera-Lopez comes in with the Lions' fastest seed time at 8:27.32, which would rank him #6 on LMU's All-Time list if here were to repeat that performance in the LMU jersey.
The Sunshine Collegiate Meet is only open to competitors, coaches, and trainers. No spectators will be allowed.
