Tony Hendricks put together the best two rounds of his career on Monday, as the first-year transfer holds a three-stroke lead and shot 9-under through 36 holes. Hendricks leads the field at the Hoakalei CC Invitational with a 65-70—135.
"The guys got some momentum going today," said Head Coach
Jason D'Amore. "We are where we want to be, in contention. Looking forward to tomorrow."
Hendricks is tied for the tournament-high with 11 birdies and leads all players with a 4-under performance on Par 4 holes.
Along with the performance by Hendricks, LMU as a team put together two strong rounds on the first day at Hoakalei Country Club. The Lions sit in second place at 7-under, two strokes off the tournament leaders Louisiana, after following an opening round 287 with a 282 second round for 569 through 36.
LMU is the only program in the 15-school field to shoot under par on Par 3 holes, recording an average of 2.98 and sitting at 1-under par. The Lions are also 12-under on Par 5 holes and have totaled 112 pars, 35 birdies, and an eagle.
Riley Lewis jumped 28 positions between the first and second rounds, dropping his opening 75 and shooting 67 in the second round. Lewis is tied for eighth at 142.
Also making a big jump between rounds was
Gavin Cohen who moved up 11 positions. Cohen shot 74-70—144 to tie for 14
th at even.
Cameron Meeks also scored for the Lions, with his 73-75—148 to tie for 28
th.
The fifth Lion competing for the team is
Caden McMackin who is also top-40 at 75-75—150.
Ryan Henares is competing as an individual in his first tournament with LMU. Henares is tied for 60
th in the 79-player field at 76-78—154.
