LOS ANGELES – LMU men's basketball built up a double-digit lead less than seven minutes into the game and never looked back. The Lions (5-3) led by as many as 29 points in the game to earn the team's third consecutive win and top Cal Poly (2-4), 76-52.
The Lions shot a season best 55.1 percent (27-49) from the field, while limiting the Mustangs to 34.0 percent (16-for-47) percent shooting. LMU's two opponents this week are averaging 50.0 points per game against the Lions.
Dameane Douglas put together another complete game, leading the team in scoring for the third consecutive games and completing four emphatic dunks. Douglas scored 16 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Eli Scott set the tone early, recording his 300
th career assist on the game's opening play, finding
Keli Leaupepe for a layup. Scott ranks 11
th in the program record book with 305 assists after totaling six against the Mustangs. Scott put together a well-rounded game, tying Douglas with 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting and adding six and six.
Going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field,
Mattias Markusson added 13 points and six rebounds. With the help of the 7-3 center, LMU outscored Cal Poly 38-10 in the paint.
LMU also recorded a season-high six steals, with half coming from the freshman
Jalin Anderson.
The win moves LMU to 5-0 at home in the non-conference and winners of three straight games overall.
The Lions were scheduled to host California Baptist on Monday, but that game has been canceled.
