FINAL RESULTS
MONTEREY, Calif. – The LMU men's golf team separated themselves again on Tuesday with a 3-under final round to move to sole possession of second place at the Pasadera Collegiate Invite. The Lions, who opened the third round in a tie for second with St. Mary's, were buoyed by final rounds in the 60s by both
Riley Lewis and
Gavin Cohen to finish the tournament at 267-278-277—822.
Riley Lewis, playing in his first collegiate tournament as a true freshman, tied for fifth overall after shooting all three rounds at 69 or better. Lewis' 66-65-69—200 was a mere four strokes off the tournament leader, and led LMU at 10-under par. Lewis shot the third best in the field on Par 5 holes at 8-under, averaging 4.33 strokes on such holes. The freshman sunk 15 birdies and one eagle.
Gavin Cohen put together one of the strongest final rounds in the tournament, finishing at 67-72-66—205 to tie for 10
th overall. Only one other golfer on Tuesday shot a lower round than 66.
Staying in the top 20,
Cameron Meeks put together a 67-71-71—209 to place 19
th.
Brendan Gonzalez placed in a tie for 22
nd with his 67-70-75—212.
Caden McMackin closed out the scoring five for the Lions with his 68-5-71—144.
For the individuals,
Raymond Navis put together the best LMU performance, shooting 70-71-74—215 to tie for 26
th.
Kyle Kinnane (71-72-74—217) and
Guy Clauss (81-74-77—232) also competed as individuals.
The same five teams will next meet on Oct. 19-20 at the La Purisima College Invite in Lompoc, Calif.
