Final Results
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – Sophomore
Gavin Cohen earned his first top-five finish as a member of the Loyola Marymount men's golf team this week after transferring into the program at the semester break. At Monday and Tuesday's Southwestern Invitational, Cohen tied for fourth with a season-low 73-68-72—213.
"Gavin has been a great pickup for us and he has fit in really well so far," said Head Coach
Jason D'Amore. Looking forward to him keeping up the improvement each event."
Cohen recorded 15 birdies over the three rounds, one of the tournament leader. Cohen did his most damage on Par 5 holes, where he finished 7-under.
Riley Elmes finished in the top 20 as well, totaling 75-73-73—221. Tying for 29
th,
Samuel Su shot a 76-72-74—222. Both Elmes and Su recorded an eagle in the tournament.
Also scoring for the Lions was
Justin Egelske (74-78-80—232), while
Matthew Carungay rounded out the LMU five with his 79-85-78—242.
"Overall we played some good golf this week but our 4/5 positions really hurt us," said Head Coach
Jason D'Amore. "Sam, Gavin and Riley have played solid for 3 events now and is nice to see."
The team's best collective round was the second. LMU finished the tournament at 298-291-297—886, and recorded the second-lowest mark on Par 3 holes, averaging 3.22 strokes.
Following a week away, the Lions return to competition at the Olympic Club Intercollegiate in San Francisco on March 11-12.
