Lions Sign Transfer Student DeCosta

LOS ANGELES – Loyola Marymount University women's basketball will be adding transfer student Aquira DeCosta to its 2020-21 roster, announced by head coach Charity Elliott on Thursday.

"To say Aquira is a game changer is an understatement," said Elliott. " She's a phenomenal athlete, a gifted scorer and brings tremendous experience to the table.  More than all of her athletic abilities and her accolades, I know that Aquira is also going to be an awesome teammate and leader to our team. "

DeCosta will be coming to LMU from Baylor University, where she helped in leading the team to a national title, putting up 11 points in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, and then had three 3-pointers during the next round of the tournament.

Standing at six feet tall, DeCosta joined Baylor's record book as one of seven players to score in double figures.

The guard/power forward is from Sacramento Calif, where she was named a McDonald's All-American and Jordan Brand Classic All-American her senior year of high school.

DeCosta was selected to compete for USA Basketball three times and won the gold in 2018 and bronze with the 2016 U17 World Championship and 2015 U16 National Teams.

"Off the floor, I know that the LMU community is going to embrace Aquira and help her to achieve all of her goals, both athletically and professionally.  We are so excited to welcome Aquira and her awesome parents to the Lion Pride."

DeCosta will join the LMU roster for the 2020-21 season.
