Playing in the Round of 16 on Friday morning, freshman Veronica Miroshnichenko (#48 in ITA rankings) claimed the opening set of a match against eight-seed #10 Fernanda Contreras (Vanderbilt), but eventually suffered a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 setback from the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championship and Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.

By reaching the round of 16 with a Thursday win over ITA #16 overall player Stacey Fung (Washington), Miroshnichenko became the first LMU women's tennis All-American in program history.

The native of Moscow, Russia finishes her freshman year with a 24-10 overall singles mark. In addition to her All-American tag, she also took home West Coast Conference Co-Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-WCC First Team as a singles player.

While her singles run is complete, Miroshnichenko will still team with Eva Marie Voracek later today at 10:30 a.m. PT in the round of 16 in the doubles bracket. The pair will play top-seed and #1-ranked ITA duo Paige Hourigan/Kenya Jones (Georgia Tech).

Miroshnichenko/Voracek, ranked #18 in the latest ITA rankings, advanced by way of a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 victory over Rosie Johanson/Meghan Kelley (Virginia), ranked #16 in the ITA poll, in the opening round.
