Lions Claim Doubles Point, #11 Pepperdine Earns WCC Championship

Playing in the WCC Championship Final on Saturday afternoon, LMU women's tennis (17-6) won the doubles point, but could not get past #11 Pepperdine (22-2) as the Waves captured a 4-1 win and their sixth consecutive WCC crown.

At the conclusion of play, LMU earned a trio of WCC All-Tournament selections, as Veronica Miroshnicheko and Eva Marie Voracek took home the honor for #1 doubles, while Siobhan Anderson and Anna Romeka claimed the honor for #2 doubles. Freshman Yesica De Lucas was selected for her play on court four in singles.

After dropping the first decision of doubles on court three, LMU rebounded to capture wins on courts one and two. #30 Miroshnichenko/Voracek knocked off #75 Evgeniya Levashova/Dzina Milovanovic, 6-2, on the top court before Siobhan Anderson / Anna Romeka outlasted Ashley Lahey/Adrijana Lekaj, 7-5, on court two to seal the point.

Pepperdine's singles lineup, which features a top-100 player at each of the top-four positions, proved strong on Saturday, as the Waves captured four singles wins to take the match. #52 Levashova was first to finish, completing a 6-1, 6-3 win over Anderson on court three to knot the match score. Lekaj followed with a straight-set 6-1, 6-1 win over Romeka on court six to take a 2-1 lead in the match score.

In a battle of ranked players, #18 Lahey knocked off #45 Miroshnichenko, 6-4, 6-4 at the top of the order to push Pepperdine to within a point of the title. Milovanovic answered the call for the Waves, defeating Elvira Juravliova, 6-2, 6-4 on court five to secure the championship win.

The win also handed Pepperdine a point in the PCH Cup standings, as the Waves now lead 10-8.5
