Beginning its run at the 2018 WCC Championship series on Thursday afternoon, LMU women's tennis (16-5), the third seed in the tournament, swept past six-seed Santa Clara (8-13) to advance to the semifinal round on Friday against Gonzaga at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs are the second seed in the tournament.
LMU's doubles pair of Veronica Miroshnichenko / Eva Varie Voracek, ranked #30 in the nation, got the ball rolling in the right direction, posting a 6-3 win at #1 doubles. Siobhan Anderson / Anna Romeka followed shortly after, posting a 6-2 win on court two to hand LMU the doubles point.
The Lions seemingly cruised to the victory in singles play, with three Lions posting straight-set victories. #45 Miroshnichenko defeated Madison Clarke, 6-2, 6-0, at the top of the order before Camila Tumosa defeated Delaney Nothaft, 6-3, 6-1, on court six to push LMU within a point of victory.
Voracek handed LMU the clincher while playing at #2 in the order, knocking off #116 Maddie Pothoff, 7-5, 6-3.
The Lions will now prepare for the match against Gonzaga on Friday.
