Opening the final weekend of regular-season play on the road, LMU women's tennis (14-5, 6-2 WCC) defeated Santa Clara (8-11, 3-5 WCC), 4-2, from the Degheri Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
LMU dropped the doubles point, with the decision falling to the play on court three where Zeina El Tawil/Delaney Nothaft defeated Elvira Juravliova / Yesica De Lucas, 7-6 (6) in a hard-fought match.
LMU's singles strength proved to be the difference, as the Lions won the first three singles decision to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the match score.
Camila Tumosa was first to finish on court six, defeating Giannina Ong, 6-2, 6-0, before #51 Veronica Miroshnichenko took down #113 Maddie Pothoff, 6-1, 6-2, on the top court.
Juravliova was next to claim a win, besting Caitlyn Frankel, 6-2, 6-1, on court five to push LMU to within a point of victory.
Although Santa Clara managed to win the next singles point on court three, De Lucas sealed the Lion win with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Katya Tabachnik on court four.
LMU will finish up the regular season on Saturday with a 3 p.m. match at San Francisco.
