Box Score March 17, 2018

Box Score

LOS ANGELES â€" The Loyola Marymount softball team played the Fairfield Stags for a second straight day in the LMU tournament, finishing with a 10-2 victory this time around. Freshman Delanie Wisz hit two home runs in the win, while senior Alicia Brown also launched one out of the park. The game ended in the fifth inning due to the mercy run rule. The Lions are now 14-16-1 on the season after the win.

Wisz's first homer of the game came right away in the bottom of the first as she drove herself and Molly Grumbo home to give LMU a 2-0 lead after one.

The Stags got on the board in the top of the second, as Rachel Sieber tripled to right field and brought home Sam Merino on the play to make it 2-1.

LMU had an offensive explosion in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs in the frame. Lindsey Matoi scored first on a Grumbo double to center field. This was followed up by a double to left field from Wisz who brought Grumbo home for a second time. Brown's homer was next for the Lions, which scored two runs with Wisz on base, putting the Lions up 6-1.

Brooke Christensen was the next runner to score for LMU as Maddison Flores popped up to the shortstop. Then Andrea Gonzalez singled to second base, as Sabrina Tebou made it home to score, securing the final run of the inning, making it 8-1.

Fairfield scored their second and final run of the game in the top of the fourth as Drew Westford singled to right center and Makenna DiGuilio made it home.

Wisz's second homer came in the bottom of the fourth, another two-run shot to score herself and Grumbo once again, leading LMU into double-digits with a 10-2 lead, which would remain the lead throughout.

Wisz also homered in yesterday's 6-1 win over Fairfield.

Hannah Bandimere pitched for the Lion's in the victory, finishing with three strikeouts through the five innings.

In Saturday's neutral games, Monmouth defeated Colgate 4-3 in the opening matchup, LBSU took down Fairfield 9-1 and LBSU earned a 9-6 win over Colgate to wrap up the day.

The final four games of the tournament will be played tomorrow beginning with an 8 a.m. start between North Dakota State and Fairfield and NDSU vs. Monmouth at 10:30 a.m. Then LMU will finish out the last two games of the weekend against Monmouth at 1 p.m. and Long Beach State at 3:30 p.m.
