In a battle of 1-6 West Coast Conference teams, Saturday's homecoming matchup looks to be a competitive nightcap to a full day of campus events. Loyola Marymount (6-12, 1-6 WCC) takes on Portland (7-13, 1-6 WCC) following the Pilot's first win of conference play, a 55-49 victory over San Diego.

Despite dropping eight of their last nine contest this season, the Lions did win the last time the team played at home, a thrilling 67-65 victory over San Francisco to pick up their lone conference win.

Throughout the dry spell, senior Steven Haney, Jr. has remained a hot option for the Lions. Haney is coming off a team-leading 16 point performance at BYU where he knocked down five threes. Haney ranks second in the WCC with 2.9 three-point field goals per game throughout the season, but is the leader with 3.6 triples per contest in conference games. Of his 50 threes this season, half have come in his seven WCC games.

Three Lions rank in the conference's top 14 in scoring. James Batemon (17.2 ppg) ranks fifth and Eli Scott is just ahead of Haney at 13th (13.1 ppg) and 14th (12.8 ppg), respectively.

A real weapon of late has been the defense of Jeffery McClendon. The junior has been a solid perimeter defender and leads the conference in both total steals (34) and steals per game (1.9). During WCC play, McClendon remains at the top of both categories, with 16 steals and an average of 2.9 per game.
