#23 LMU Drops Opener at Gonzaga, 6-3

Junior Eli Morgan dealt 7.2 strong innings to guide Gonzaga (26-17, 16-6 WCC) to a 6-3 victory over #23 LMU (32-15, 16-6 WCC) on Friday to open a three-game West Coast Conference series being played at Gonzaga's Patterson Baseball Complex.

Morgan allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks, but struck out 11 and did not allow a Lion hit until the fifth inning, improving to 8-2 with the victory.

Wyatt Mills entered with two out in the seventh and recorded the final out before striking out the side in order in the ninth to close the game and secure his ninth save of the year.

Senior Brenton Arriaga had his roughest start of the season, allowing a season-high six runs (five earned) on a career-high 13 hits over 7.0 innings of work. Saddled with the loss, Arriaga fell to 5-2 on the season.

The Bulldogs got a run in the first inning on an RBI-single from Justin Jacobs before adding three more in the third, highlighting by a two-RBI single from Jake Roberts.

After LMU got on the board with an RBI-double from Jimmy Hill in the top of the fifth, Gonzaga answered right back with two of their own in the bottom of the frame, stretching the lead to 6-1.

Billy Wilson single-handedly cut into the deficit in the seventh, launching his fourth homer of the year out to right field to make it 6-2. The Lions added their final run of the game in the eighth as Spencer Erdman reached on an error to lead off the frame before ultimately coming around to score on a double from Steven Chavez down the left field line.

Erdman finished the game 1-for-4 with the run scored, extending his hit streak to 15 games.

Gonzaga had two players finish with three hits, as Sam Brown went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, a sacrifice fly and one RBI out of the leadoff spot, and Branson Trube finished 3-for-4 with a double of his own in just his third start of the season.

LMU will look to even the series on Saturday when it sends Cory Abbott to the mound at 6 p.m.
