Johnson Earns WCC Player of the Week Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - For the second time this season, senior Jackie Johnson has been named the WCC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday.

The senior posted a pair of double-doubles to lead LMU to a sweep of Pacific and BYU.For the week, Johnson averaged 26.0 points, 16.0 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game.

She started the week off by posting a career-high 29 points and matched a career-high with 18 rebounds in a 65-52 win at Pacific, snapping LMU's four-game losing streak on the road. The senior went 5-for-5 to open the game en route to an efficient 10-of-16 night shooting from the floor and also tallied five blocks.

A native of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Johnson was instrumental in leading LMU to its second win ever against then-WCC frontrunner BYU, posting her 10th double-double of the season with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Johnson sealed the Lions second victory in the 15-game series with a game-clinching block with 10 seconds left in overtime to cap the 77-74 upset.

Johnson becomes the first LMU player to be honored as the WCC Player of the Week twice in a season since Renahy Young accomplished the feat in the 2008-09 season, as she previously garnered the honors Dec. 5.

Johnson was also named an honorable mention for the espnW National Player of the Week award Monday and was one of three national players of the week by College Sports Madness.
