LOS ANGELES - LMU men's basketball hit seven of their last eight field goals and used an 8-2 run in the final four minutes to pull away from Pacific, earning a 79-73 win in West Coast Conference action on Thursday night. The Lions (10-10, 3-6) equaled a season-high with 12 three-pointers for a rare home win over the Tigers (8-14, 2-7).
The road team has won the last 10 meetings in the series between the Lions and Tigers, and the Lions used the three to snap the streak. On Suits and Sneakers night where LMU's student-booster club, The CAGE, donated $50 for every three-pointer to the American Cancer Society, the Lions made them pay.
The Lions finished 12-for-29 from three and hit 62.5 percent from the field in the second half. They finished hitting 48.1 percent from the field and 41.4 percent from three. The Tigers finished hitting 44.8 percent from the field and went just 2-for-8 from three.
Four Lions scored in double figures, including Brandon Brown with 21 points and six assists. Steven Haney Jr. and Trevor Manuel had 11 points while Shamar Johnson added 10. Pacific got 22 points from Ray Bowles, who went 11-for-11 from the free throw line, and 21 from Jacob Lampkin.
Up by one, 49-48, the Lions went on a 9-0 run, capped by a Erik Johansson three-pointer, making it 58-48 with 8:02 to play. Pacific, however, did not go away.
They managed to cut the lead to one, 67-66, on a TJ Wallace jumper with 3:20 to play. The Lions then rattled off six straight points, four from Manuel and the final lay-in by Jeffery McClendon to make it 73-66 with 1:25 to play. They managed to push the lead to nine on Johnson free throws to put the game away.

FROM COACH DUNLAP
"We hit 41 percent from the three-point line. There have been just a few games were we won from the three-point line this season. Tonight that was the difference," said Head Coach
Mike Dunlap.
"Our pressure wore them down in the second half and we did a good job of staying with it the entire game. Brandon Brown had a huge game for us."
