STOCKTON, Calif. - Behind a career-high 29 points and 18 rebounds from Jackie Johnson, the LMU women's basketball team earned a 65-52 victory at Pacific Thursday night at the Spanos Center.
Johnson finished with her ninth double-double of the season, connecting on 10-for-16 from the floor and 9-of-13 from the free throw line. The senior also matched a career-high with her 18 boards and added in five blocks.
Cheyanne Wallace also posted double digit rebounds with 10 to go with eight points, while Andee Velasco contributed 10 points and a game-high seven assists.
GAMEDAY STORYLINES
Johnson had the hot-hand early, hitting her opening fiour shots to thrust the LMU (9-11, 4-5 WCC) out to a 13-3 advantage at the first media break. Pacific (8-12, 4-5 WCC) responded with a 12-3 run before Johnson made it a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor to cap the quarter, putting the score at 18-15.
Johnson opened the second with three straight free throws before Bianca Velasco drilled a triple to push the score to 24-17 two minutes in. The Tigers made it a five-point game midway through the quarter before the Lions rode an 8-2 run, capped by a pair from the charity stripe from Shelbi Aimonetti, to take their largest lead of the half, 34-23, with two minutes to go before the break. Pacific hit two 3-pointers in the final minute, making it a five-point game at 36-31.
Pacific open the third shooting just 2-for-10, while LMU held onto its five-point advantage, 40-35, after a 9-0 run at the halfway point in the third quarter.
The Lions held the Tigers scoreless for 7:16 as they went 0-for-14 from the field during that span.
Lopez-Wood hit a buzzer-beater to close out the third, moving her into sole posession of eight place on the all-time scoring leaderboard to put LMU on top 48-42.
Andee Velasco and Johnson tabbed four points apiece to open the fourth as the Lions held the upper hand at 56-48 with 4:46 to go. Johnson capped her night with an and-1 with 1:58 to go, sealing the win for the Lions, 65-52.
Johnson also outscored Pacific in the fourth, putting up nine points to Pacific's 10 and matched the Tigers output in the third with 11 points.
The Lions held Pacific to 29.7 percent shooting, matching their lowest oppoent shooting percentage of the season. LMU previous held Cal State Fullerton to that mark Dec. 4.
