Box Score

Turning in one of its best offensive performances of the year, LMU (18-19) scored a season-high 17 runs on 10 hits en route to running away with a 17-5 victory over CSU Bakersfield (7-28) on Wednesday from Bakersfield's Hardt Field.

Junior Cassidy Brown finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI to lead the offensive attack. The native of Hudson, Ohio has now collected a team-best 18 multi-hit games, including posting multiple hits in nine of his last 14 overall.

Senior Joe Christian finished with three RBI, collecting all three with a three-run homer in the five-run eighth inning. The round-tripper was the first of Christian's career. Junior Ted Boeke also collected a homer in that inning, sending a two-run shot out to left field for his third of the year. Sean Watkins and Spencer Erdman also posted a pair of RBI, as LMU plated three in the first, one in the third, three in sixth, three in the seventh, five in the eighth, and two more in the ninth.

Other firsts for the Lions included Nathan Keavy's first RBI, Erik Owenson's LMU debut, and Josh Blank's first appearance in 2016.

Perhaps overshadowed by the offensive outpouring, LMU received a quality start from junior Brenton Arriaga. The left-hander dealt 6.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with three strikeouts to earn the victory and move to 1-4.

CSUB starter Garrett Nimmo was saddled with the loss and fell to 1-4 on the season after allowing seven runs (five earned) on four hits and two walks. The Roadrunners used seven pitchers on Wednesday, allowing 10 walks and three hit-by-pitches.

Chance Gusbeth proved to be the highlight for CSUB, as Gusbeth went 3-for-4 with four RBI and his third homer of the year.

LMU will look to keep the momentum going on Friday when it travels to Stockton, Calif. to open a three-game West Coast Conference series with Pacific at 7 p.m.
