The LMU women's tennis team (4-5) defended its home court on Wednesday afternoon, defeating visiting Utah State (4-8) by a score of 5-2 from the LMU Tennis Center.

The team win began during doubles competition, as LMU suffered a 6-0 setback on court two, but rallied to win the final two courts to earn the point. Andrea Crespo and Julia Norlin defeated Monika Van de Vondel and Lexi Turley, 6-1, to force a decision at court one. There, Jessica Perez and Elvira Juravliova topped Ekaterina Tugarinova and Sabrina Demerath, 6-3, to hand LMU the 1-0 lead in the team score.

After Utah State won the first singles courts on court five, Juravliova finished up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Demerath on court four to reclaim a lead LMU would not relinquish. The win for Juravliova was her third straight, and moved her to 7-2 on the season.

LMU's final three singles victories came on courts one through three, and all three were comeback wins. Jessica Perez dropped the opening set to Nini Guensler, 6-2, on court one, but rallied to take the second, 6-4, before finishing her opponent, 6-2, in the third.

It was a similar story for Kristine Kouyoumjian at #2 singles, as the junior lost the first set to Tugarinova, but claimed 6-4, 6-2 wins over the final two sets to claim her fifth dual-match victory of the year.

Finally, Andrea Crespo erased a 6-4 setback in the first with consecutive 6-1 victories to close her match â€" a win over Maggie O'Meara on court three. Crespo has now won three straight matches, and is 6-3 on the season during dual match play.

LMU will look to build on the victory tomorrow afternoon when it closes three matches in as many days, this time hosting Boston University. First serve from the LMU Tennis Center is set for 1:30 p.m.
