LOS ANGELES - The Lion bats were hot and the pitching was solid Tuesday as the LMU softball team swept a pair of games from Harvard, 6-4, and Fairleigh Dickinson, 11-1, at Smith Field.

LMU improved to to 16-8 on the year with the two victories, while also avenging losses to both opponents from last weekend.

In the Lions' first game of the day, they jumped on the Crimson, scoring two runs in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth. Alicia Brown scored on a wild pitch and Meghan von Behren had a sacrifice fly for the game's first two runs.

In the third inning, a two-RBI double by Amanda Dirks and an RBI-single by Nicole Clouds gave the Lions a 5-0 advantage. LMU's final run came in the fourth when von Behren hustled home from first on an Alex Finish double down the right field line.

The Crimson would make things interesting in the top of the seventh as a pair of two-RBI hits trimmed the Lion lead down to two, 6-4. But pitcher Rachael Farrington got the final Harvard batter to fly out to third for her seventh complete game of the year. The junior lefty struck out three and scattered 10 hits in her eighth win of the year.

In the nightcap against FDU, the Lions used a big eight-run second inning to break open the game. Brown led off the inning with a solo home run and the Lions went on to use four total hits, along with a pair of walks, to score their eight runs. The scoring surge was capped by a grand slam by Shianne Ybarra.

Stephanie Maciel had a pair of hits in the win while five other Lions had one hit apiece. Hannah Bandimere struck out four and scattered eight hits for one run in the complete-game victory.

LMU's nine-game homestand concludes Wednesday with a doubleheader versus Princeton. First pitch for game one is scheduled for noon at Smith Field.
