Senior Day Sends Off Lions as Season Closes at Smith Field

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - On a day filled with emotion and celebration, LMU softball closed out its 2026 season with a 4-1 loss to Oregon State in the rubber match of the three-game series at Smith Field.

Before first pitch, the focus shifted to Senior Day as LMU honored Sydney Poole, Savannah Hooks, Lindsay O'Dell, Cristina Jones, and Izzy Jamgotchian. The ceremony highlighted not only their accomplishments on the field, but also the resilience, leadership, and heart they brought to the program throughout their careers. Surrounded by family, teammates, and fans, the group was celebrated for the lasting mark they have left on LMU Softball.

A special moment came as part of the pregame ceremony when the seniors' families delivered the ceremonial first pitch. Erin Poole, Yvonne Jamgotchian, Laura Hooks, and Liz O'Dell, and Carl Jones each represented their daughters. It was a meaningful tribute that reflected the unwavering support system behind this senior class.

Once the game began, the Lions and Beavers settled into a pitchers' duel early, with both teams held scoreless through the first three innings. LMU broke through in the fourth inning when Sydney Poole reached and later came around to score on a clutch RBI triple from Rubi Lopez, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.

Oregon State responded in the fifth inning, capitalizing on key opportunities to take a 2-1 advantage. The Beavers continued to add pressure with runs in the sixth and seventh innings, extending their lead to 4-1.

LMU continued to compete until the final out and mounted a threat in the seventh inning. Avery Francis and Izzy Jamgotchian worked walks to put runners on base, and Poole delivered again with a single to load the bases. With the tying run at the plate, Oregon State was able to secure the final out and close out the win.

Poole led the Lions offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with the team's lone run scored, while Lopez went 2-for-3 with the RBI triple. In the circle, O'Dell made the start and went 4.1 innings, while Sawyer Denser, Savannah Hooks, and Jessie Gilbert combined in relief to finish the game.

While the result did not fall in LMU's favor, the afternoon served as a meaningful celebration of a senior class that helped define this era of the program. Their impact, both on and off the field, will continue to be felt for years to come. The Lions closed out the 2026 season with a 33-18 overall record and a 10-8 mark in West Coast Conference play, finishing third in the conference standings.
