• With the score at 6-4, Nevada went on a 11-2 run capped by a Marshall three-pointer to take a 17-6 lead. After Brown cut the lead to 17-11 with 10:48 to play, Nevada went on a 13-2 run to take a 30-13 lead with 6:02 to play. The Lions, however, pushed back and held Nevada to just five points the final six minutes and managed to cut the lead to 32-26 with 53 seconds to play on a
Mattias Markusson jumper. Nevada would lead 35-26 at the break.
• LMU cut the lead to five several times through-out the second half. The first came on a three-point play by Amayo with 14:21 to play. They would do it twice more, the final time coming on Tuach lay-up with 9:33 to play. However, Nevada answered each time as one last push by the Lions saw them cut it to six (62-56) on a Steve Haney three-pointer with 6:34 to play.
• The Lions, who had eight turnovers at the half, had one four in the second half and finished with 12. They forced Nevada into 16 turnovers on nine steals. However, Nevada outscored the Lions 22-13 in points off turnovers.
FROM COACH DUNLAP
"They did a really good job of junking it up early," said Head Coach
Mike Dunlap. "What that means is that they did a good job of getting the ball out of Brandon's hands. It took us a little bit to adjust to that, but once we did we had a good push back." The Lions had four assists and eight turnovers in the first half, but nine assists and four turnovers in the second.
"We had a really good push back. We were able to get the lead to six with under two minutes of the first half. And we did it several times in the second half. We just ran out of gas inside five minutes."
"We lost the field goal battle and the rebound battle," said Dunlap. "You can't let a team shoot 56 percent. You won't win too many games. We have to shore up our defense." Nevada out-rebounded the Lions 34-28 and finished the game shooting 56.3 percent to the Lions 42.2 percent.
