The LMU women's tennis team (3-14, 0-3 WCC) dropped another close match on Sunday, falling 4-3 to San Diego (2-9, 1-3 WCC) on the road at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.

San Diego came out strong with a pair of 6-0 victories in doubles to take the doubles point, but LMU fought back in singles play. Lisa Piller was nearly perfect at #6 singles, defeating Marisa Marsh, 6-1, 6-0 to even the match score at 1-1. Ellie Grossman put the Lions on top 2-1 with a second singles victory at #4 singles, defeating Mikayla Morkel-Brink in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. The top singles players, Jessica Perez and Marta Stojanovic came off the court next, with Stojanovic narrowly defeating Perez, 6-1, 7-6 (5), in a tight match to even the match score at 2-2.

A pair of three-set matches proved to be the difference on Sunday afternoon as Dana Oppinger outlasted Anna Romeka, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 on court three to make it 3-2 USD before Drew Spinosa clinched the victory for the Toreros with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victory on court two.

Although the Lions had already fallen, Julia Norlin was still busy working on trying to finish the day on a high note for LMU. Norlin, playing on court five, forced a third set with a 7-5 victory in set two, ultimately defeating Janine Koleta in the third, 6-4, to take the match. Norlin has now won two straight matches.
