Playing its second match against ranked opponents in as many days, and playing without it's top singles player, LMU women's tennis (3-9, 0-1 WCC) opened West Coast Conference play with a 6-1 loss to #52 BYU (6-6, 2-2 WCC) on Friday in Provo, Utah.

Andrea Crespo stepped up to a huge challenge on Friday, taking over at the #1 position when Jessica Perez was pulled from the starting lineup due to injury. Leading the Lions for the first time in her career, Crespo posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Megan Sheehan-Dizon on court one. With the Lions playing one spot higher in the order due to Perez' absence, the Lions proved tough in the loss. To this point, forced to play a tiebreaker with the match already decided, Ellie Grossman dropped a very close 7-6 (4), 4-6, 1-0 (13-11) tiebreaker on court four.

The match at BYU ended a seven-match road trip for LMU, as the Lions will return home on Sunday to host Sacramento State at Noon.
