LOS ANGELES - Cassidy Nicks became the 12th Lion to score a goal this season and the LMU women's soccer team also benefitted from an opponent's own goal for the second consecutive match, moving to 2-0-0 in West Coast Conference play with a 2-0 shutout of Pacific Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field.
It was the fifth shutout of the season for LMU, which is now a perfect 7-0-0 on its home pitch, as well as 8-3-1 overall for the season. The Tigers fell to 1-8-1 overall and 0-2-0 in WCC play.
Nicks' goal came just before halftime as it took the Lions a bit of time to find their offense. Earning a corner kick on the right side of the Pacific goal, LMU's Jocelyn Blankenship whipped a ball to the front of the goalmouth. Nicks would come out above the pack, heading home her first goal of the season for a 1-0 Lion advantage.
The assist was Blankenship's third of the season and 17th of her career, putting her one shy of the all-time LMU record of 18, held by Julie Gallaudet (2007-10).
In deja vu fashion to Friday's match against Saint Mary's, the Lions would also benefit from an own goal, this time off a Tiger defender in the 55th minute.
LMU finished with a healthy 17-3 shot advantage, including an 11-1 edge in the second half. Pacific goalkeeper Lena Perry made six saves, five in the second half as the Lions upped the offensive pressure. LMU goalkeeper Charlee Pruitt earned her fourth win of the season, making two saves on the day.
WCC play continues this week as the Lions travel to face Santa Clara on Friday and San Francisco on Sunday.
