The LMU men's tennis team (2-2) collected a hard-fought sweep of visiting Sacramento State (1-1) on Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center.
The team effort saw the Lions win 7-6 tie-breaker sets on all but one court, as sophomore Charles Boyce defeated Niranjan Ram in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 at #2 singles. Despite being challenged by the Hornets, LMU managed to win in straight sets on all six courts.
With a 6-3, 7-6 (6) victory over Sean Kolar at #1 singles, freshman Errol Smith improved to 5-3 overall, including 3-1 in dual matches and 3-0 at the top court. Senior Felix Van Kann was forced into a pair of tie-breakers, eventually dispatching Roy Brandys 7-6 (4), 7-6 (0). The Frankfurt, Germany native is now 8-4 on the year and 3-1 in dual matches. Freshman Joat Farah also had to win a pair of tie-breakers to record his first dual match victory, beating Kasparas Zemaitelis, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (2). Cristobal Rivera and Alex Bourgeois rounded out the victories for the Lions, with Bourgeois improving to 4-0 on the season.
The Lions won two of three doubles matches on the afternoon, as the pairs of Boyce/Rivera and Othar Kordsachia / Adam Zaorski each collected a win.
LMU will now take a break from competition, returning to action on February 14 at UC Santa Barbara.
