Biography

Following a standout four-year career at LMU that ended with the 2016 season, Cristobal Rivera quickly transitioned into the coaching ranks, beginning his tenure as a volunteer assistant coach with the Lions in 2016-17. Rivera was tabbed the ITA Southwest Region Most Improved Player in 2016 following his senior campaign. The native of Santa Monica, Calif. earned second team All-West Coast Conference honors as a singles and doubles player in his final campaign after earning honorable mention accolades as a singles player in 2014, and doubles honors as a junior. Over his four-year career, Rivera totaled 62 singles wins, including going 20 at #4 singles. He had a winning record in all four of his seasons, finishing his career with a .602 winning percentage. ITA Southwest Region Most Improved Player...second team All-WCC in singles and doubles...went 20-13 overall in singles play, including 10-9 in dual matches...5-2 in WCC play, and recorded three decisions at #1 singles and nine at #2 singles...teamed with Charles Boyce to go 12-7 in doubles...the duo was 5-3 in WCC play, and was 12-3 when competing at #2 doubles...helped LMU to its highest ranking in program history on April 5, 2016 (#58). 2014-15
Went 14-11 as a singles player as a junior, playing the bulk of his matches at #4 singles (8-8)...played to a 4-2 mark at #3 singles...recorded victories at #4 singles over players from #61 Cal Poly, #71 Utah State and #72 Utah...teamed with Charles Boyce, went 13-4 overall in doubles play, including 4-2 in WCC play en route to being named honorable mention All-WCC...duo played almost exclusively at #2 doubles, going 12-4 at that spot...Rivera was 14-7 overall in doubles play... 2013-14
Named honorable mention All-WCC after finishing 16-7 overall in singles play while competing on courts 3-5...the 16 victories were tops on the team...went 7-3 in WCC play...had a string of 10 straight victories from March 13 to April 6, the longest streak of any Lion in 2014...finished the year 15-7 in doubles, including 8-2 with partner Felix Van Kann at #2...the duo was 3-1 in WCC play...also went 7-3 with teammate David Doehring... 2012-13
