LOS ANGELES – The LMU men's tennis team notched a hard-fought victory over Cal Poly 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center.
Sebastian Nothhaft and
Youssef Sadek set the tone with a dominant display in No. 1 doubles, cruising to a 6-1 win and putting the Lions on the brink of earning the doubles point.
Arthur Pantino and
Cesar Cruz would clinch it after a 6-4 victory on court two.
Nothhaft continued to push the team closer to victory with a quick 6-3, 6-3 straight sets win in No. 2 singles to extend the lead before Sadek put the Lions on the brink of victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win in No. 5 singles.
Cal Poly earned the next point with a win on court 6 and would even close the deficit to 3-2 with a win on court 4, but Pantino closed the door with a come-from-behind win in No. 1 singles. Pantino dropped the first set before dominating the next two en route to a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win and the clinching point.
Cruz would add a cherry on top with a straight sets win on court three.
The Lions will be in action again this weekend with a Sunday afternoon matchup scheduled for 12:00 p.m. (PT).
