The LMU women's tennis team (1-2) traveled to #1 UCLA (3-0) on Thursday, eventually falling 7-0 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The reigning National Champion Bruins are once again picked to win the title, so the task was a tall one for LMU on Thursday. Facing the #2 player in the nation in UCLA's Robin Anderson, sophomore Jessica Perez played well at #1 singles. The Laguna Niguel, Calif. native lost in straight sets, but played to a close 6-4 defeat in the first set.
"I was pleased with the way our team played against the #1 team in the nation," 40th-year head coach Jamie Sanchez said. "We played tough, but they are obviously a very good team. Now we have turn our attention to our next few matches with ranked opponents in UC Irvine and Long Beach State."
LMU will return to action on February 3 when it travels to #74 UC Irvine. The Lions will then return home to host #39 Long Beach State on February 6 at 1:30 p.m.
