Rivera Collects Victory in Opening Round at All-American

LMU men's tennis sent three players to the prestigious Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships last weekend, with Cristobal Rivera collecting a victory in the opening round.

Rivera opened play with a victory over Simon Stevens of Oregon, beating his opponent by scores of 7-6(2), 6-3. He then drew a second-round match against Peter Bertran of the University of Georgia. There, Bertran earned the 7-6(4), 6-3 victory.

Felix Van Kann drew Gustav Hansson of the University of Mississippi in his opening-round match, falling 6-1, 6-2. Southern Illinois University's Jonny Rigby handed Todd Volmari a first-round loss in LMU's other match, defeating the senior by scores of 7-6(1), 6-0.

Van Kann and Volmari each received a second match over the weekend after the opening-round loss, competing in the consolation of the pre-qualifying bracket. Van Kann defeated Alberto DeMeo of North Florida, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, while Volmari was bested by Iowa's Lefteris Theodorou, 6-3, 6-4.
