LAS VEGAS - Deanna Johnson led four Lions in double figures Monday night in Las Vegas, but turnovers and UNLV offensive rebounds plagued the LMU women's basketball team in a 91-76 setback at Cox Pavilion.

Paced by Leslie Lopez-Wood and Johnson, the Lions (0-2) hit a blistering 61.5% in the first half. Back-to-back buckets by Lopez-Wood and Sophie Taylor gave LMU an 8-4 advantage early and a Lopez-Wood three made it 11-8 at 14:50 in the first half. But the Rebels would go on a 15-4 run to break open a 23-15 lead at 10:38.

LMU's hot shooting brought them back to within one on three occasions late, but UNLV (2-0) scored the final four points of the half to carry a 46-41 lead into the locker room.

Lopez-Wood closed out the first half with 14 points, including four threes, for the Lions. But the sophomore sharpshooter spent valuable minutes on the bench in the second half before fouling out with eight minutes to play. She finished the night with 17 points and five assists.

Johnson finished with a team-high 21 points while Taylor Anderson added a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. Emily Ben-Jumbo tallied her second straight double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Sophie Taylor chipped in 10 points.

Alana Cesarz scored UNLV's first 11 points and went on to finish the night with a game-high 22 points. Danielle Miller had 21 points and Amie Callaway ad a 13-point, 13-rebound double double.

The Rebels earned a huge 57-36 advantage on the boards, including 29 offensive rebounds that they turned into 23 second-chance points.

Lopez-Wood's fifth three of the night followed by a Ben-Jumbo layup opened up LMU's largest lead of the game, 62-56 with 12:21 to go. A Taylor three made it 67-63 LMU at 10:16, but UNLV would go on an 11-0 run, swiping the lead back and opening up a 74-67 advantage that the Lions could not recover from.

After hitting better than 60 percent in the first half, the Lions finished the night hitting 43.5 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three. They were an impressive 13-for-14 from the charity stripe, but totaled 25 fewer trips to the line than UNLV.

The Lions will look to right the ship on Friday, returning to Gersten Pavilion for their official home opener against Cal Poly. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
