SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The LMU women's tennis team left it all on the court Friday in San Diego, but would come up just short in their upset attempt of No. 53 USD. After losing the doubles point, the Lions won split play in singles, winning on three of six courts to come up just short in the 4-3 decision. The Lions drop to 10-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play while the Toreros improve to 10-9 and 5-2 in the WCC.
In doubles, the only team to win for LMU was April Bisharat and Claudia Razzeto, won 8-2 on Court 1. This match was the first to finish, giving the Lions early hope but the Toreros would prevail on Courts 2 and 3 to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play, the Lions tied things up early due to a San Diego injury on Court 6, where Reka Rohonyi got the automatic victory, despite dropping the first and only set played. The Toreros won the next two matches on Courts 4 and 5 to take a 3-1 lead, needing only one more point to secure the team win. But the Lions would not go down easily. On Court 2, LMU's Tory Parravi pulled out a tough 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win that the Lions desperately needed. Next on Court 3, Razzeto came from a set down to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 to tie the match up at 3-3. However, San Diego's No. 103 Laura Claus would then win the match for USD in a three-set win on Court 1.
The Lions' next match is at Saint Mary's on Sunday, April 14.
