For the second time in as many days, LMU swimming defeated Alaska in head-to-head competition at the Patty Center Pool, this time taking down the Nanooks, 135-68 on Saturday.
LMU won eight of the meet's 11 events and finished 1-2 in five of them, including 1-2-3 sweeps in the 200 and 500 freestyles. Hannah Calton was a three-time winner Saturday for the Lions, winning the 200 butterfly in a pool-record time of 2:04.56 and won the 500 freestyle in 5:09.66. She closed the meet out by swimming the first leg for LMU's winning 400 freestyle relay team, which won in 3:37.83. Calton's 200 butterfly time topped her previous personal-best of 2:04.86, the third-fastest time in LMU history.
Rachel Dekar and Katie Rick went 1-2 in the 200 breaststroke, as Dekar touched in 2:23.95 and Rick at 2:30.48. The duo of Kristen Clarno and Lise Soulé took the top-two spots in the 100 freestyle, turning in times of 54.15 and 54.87, in that order.
Mary Kate Short and Stephanie Horwitz took to the water in the 1,650 freestyle, going 1-2 in 18:20.40 and 18:31.71, respectively. Short later returned to the pool in the 500 freestyle, finishing third (5:25.52) behind Calton and Stephanie Schuffels (5:20.59).
Schuffels also finished second in a 1-2-3 Lion finish in the 200 freestyle. Stacy Maier won the event in 1:57.98, followed by Schuffels (2:01.13) and Marlena Nip (2:02.62).
Other top-two finishes for the Lions included a first-place finish for Kjirsten Magnuson in the 50 freestyle (24.36) and Clarno's second-place finish in the 200 individual medley at 2:11.30.
The Lions return to action on November 9 at Noon when they visit USD.
